·         Maritime Careers & Skills Expo – Student information on careers in Maritime, Navy & Defence. Friday February 3rd 2012 at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre Darling Harbour. EBHS may send up to 10 students from years 9-12. Find out where jobs really are, meet key industry employers, inspect navy vessels, and learn about careers in the ADF. See me ASAP if you wish to attend.
 
·         Macquarie Uni Student Development Day -The Macquarie University School Partners Program is excited to offer students from our partner schools the opportunity to participate in our Student Development Day. The Student Development Day is modeled on Macquarie University's unique Global Leadership Program, a program which aims to produce graduates able to demonstrate an understanding of cross-cultural concepts with skills including communication, creativity, leadership and initiative. The Student Development Day aims to give senior high school students the opportunity to explore their individual potential towards developing their own capacity to demonstrate the skills Macquarie University students gain from participating in the Global Leadership Program. ·         UTS Engineering & Information Technology Discovery Day – Tuesday 22nd November. This is always an excellent day and highly recommended for students wishing to apply for engineering post school who either want to test the career further or who don’t think they will get the required ATAR and will need to promote their keenness for these career areas through alternate entry programs. ·         Sydney College of the Arts – (Sydney University’s Art School) Students thinking of studying a creative degree would be highly recommended to visit SCA’s Undergraduate Degree Show opening November 15th –November 25th 6-8pm.   • City Beach is offering Cert II Retail Traineeships for 2012.. Please note there are vacancies in Brookvale, Hornsby, Macquarie Park and Parramatta.  The delivery of this Traineeship is similar to the one offered by McDonalds. All the formal training and work days are done out of school hours.  This is an excellent opportunity especially for students who are now in year 10 who do not want an ATAR as it combines HSC, paid work and training in retail skills. Students gaining an ATAR may also apply as retail is an ATAR subject. See me ASAP if interested.
·         For Year 12-The Centre for Continuing Education at the University of Sydney is running intensive HSC Preparation courses in a variety of subjects for Year 12 students who want to extend their studies and enhance performance in their HSC year. We extend an invitation to all upcoming Year 12 students to participate in the HSC Preparation program at the University of Sydney throughout 2012.The next series of courses commence between Monday 9 January 2012 and Monday 16 January 2012. Our range of HSC courses assist students in improving performance in all HSC assessment tasks and facilitate a deeper conceptual understanding of course content. ·         TAFE applications – any student doing a TAFE course next year MUST fill in an application form and hand in ASAP. Places still available in most courses. There are over 50 courses available including ; Aviation, Photography, Automotive, Electrotechnology, Animal Studies, Film & Screen, Journalism, Fitness, Outdoor Recreation, Welfare, Financial Services, Retail, Design, Interactive Games, Business Services, Hairdressing, Marketing, Real Estate to name a few.
 
FOR YEAR 11
 
·         Did you choose a wrong subject for your ATAR? – Meadowbank & North Sydney TAFE offer about 8 subjects taught in intensive style ie 2 years in 1 starting next year 1 night per week for 3 terms. I have had several students each year undertake these courses and generally they do very well. See me if interested.
 
SPOTLIGHT ON A DEGREE – B.MANAGEMENT IN EVENTS & LEISURE  UTS
Three years full time ATAR 82.10 (2011) This course is for students who want to develop the knowledge & professional skills necessary to operate within the events & leisure industry. It examines the ways in which sporting, recreational, touristic, entertainment and arts events are produced and used in the commercial and public sectors. The course has an extensive compulsory internship program as well as an industry based project. This course gives students an insight into accounting, marketing, commerce, finance and the corporate world.
