Basair's Flight Camps

Basair's Flight Camps are a great way to go flying during the holidays.

You may even go for your first solo flight!

Basair is pleased to offer the following series of camps for the upcoming school holidays. These camps are a great way to get into flying, see what it's all about, and make serious progress towards gaining a pilot's licence. You'll have your own logbook at the end of the camp with flying hours logged - either towards a Private pilot Licence, or a Commercial Pilot Licence if you'd like a career as an airline pilot!

Two different camps are available: Camp 1 is for someone who has never flown before, and takes you through all the basic manoeuvres and up to basic traffic patterns around the airport. Camp 2 follows on from Camp 1 with advanced traffic work, and right through to your first solo flight if you reach the required standard.

Career Direction Events in Penrith, Richmond, & Springwood

Around 50% of teenagers are unsure of their career direction. In turn this can lead to a lack of engagement at school or frustration in the labour market.

This two hour event guides teenagers with tools to discover their interests and possible careers.

We commence with "Which Simpson Character are you?" which is a fun way to demonstrate that we are all individuals with our own strengths and unique abilities. As we explore a range of career discovery activities participants will gain new confidence in their direction and value to future employers.

The evening also touches on employer expectations and the "Winning Formula".

Presented by Dr John Taccori, professional Career Counsellor and Ian Palmer, CEO of the Schools Industry Partnership who have a wealth of practical experience and proven sucess.

Teenagers can attend on their own, but it is ideal if one parent or career can attend with them to share the experience and support the teenagers own follow through after the event.

Youth and Road Trauma Forum 2009

For the last three years, Westmead Hospital and NRMA Motoring & Services have held the Youth and Road Trauma Forum. This injury prevention program is open to students in years 10 to 12 in all government and non-government high schools in NSW and the ACT. The Forum is held at the Acer Arena, Olympic Park, Homebush Bay. Nearly 12,000 students from 103 high schools have attended in 2008. Evaluations of both students and teachers have received the event very positively with many schools attending consecutive years.

The forum is held because our youth are being severely injured and killed due to potentially preventable road crashes. The NSW statistics for 2005 for 17-25 year olds, recorded 6,487 casualties of road trauma and 111 deaths. These young people hold only 15% of licenses, but they are involved in 28% of crashes, which often result in hospitalization. Westmead Hospital's Trauma Service and NRMA Motoring & Services are committed to decreasing these numbers. The Forum provides students who are most at risk, a realistic look at the trauma caused by road crashes and gives them information and strategies in an attempt to reduce serious injuries and deaths. The Forum’s contents and structure aim’s to treat young people as adults allowing them freedom to choose from a range of interactive exhibits.

The dates for the Youth and Road Trauma Forum 2009 are the 18th 19th and 20th August 2009.
