Dear Student and Parents,

This year your son/daughter will include in their studies a Careers Education Program which will run throughout year 10 for one period per week. In this time, students will complete units of work on career exploration, decision making, work related skills and work application skills. Work experience is an integral part of this unit and has been timed for students to participate in after the Year 10 School Certificate Exams.

For all year 10, the designated work experience week is week 6, term 4, from November 23 – 27, 2009. All students are expected to participate in work experience during this week.  Year 10 timetabled classes will not operate in this week.

Some students may wish to participate in more than one placement and this may be arranged for the following week from 30/11/09 to 4/12/09. These are the only weeks approved for work experience in year 10.

Work experience is a popular program which places great demands upon many employers, especially in a number of high demand industries. To be successful in gaining work experience placements in these industries, students need to apply early and be able to demonstrate genuine interest in and knowledge of the industry.

It is the student’s responsibility to organise their work experience placements. Early application is always advisable and most employers are willing to accept work experience applications now.

What to do.

To secure a work experience placement, each section of the “Student Placement Record” needs to be completed and returned to the school Careers Adviser. This form must be completed in full and be signed by the employer, parent and student before being returned to school. All applications for work experience must be finalised by 2/10/09, the last day of term 3 2009.
Work experience is a valuable time for learning the demands and requirements of a workplace. I am sure you will find the program a challenging and enjoyable experience.

Yours sincerely,
