Youth Engagement through Technology, Nationwide Forums - Feb 2011

Foundation for Young Australians are calling on VET practitioners and teachers, ICT technicians, social workers, Job Network providers, counsellors, enterprise RTOs and policy-makers alike to share ideas and expertise.

In February 2011 FYA will be running one forum in every state and territory, either online or in person. These forums will draw on material gathered from our youth workshops and aim to:

•Provoke debate and generate ideas about the use of technology to support and motivate young people in VET
•Build understanding among VET stakeholders about the relationship between young people’s use of technology and their education/employment choices
•Allow for people working in different areas of VET to share their ideas.

Please register your interest by 8 December 2010. As places are limited, participants will be selected with a view to assembling a diverse group.

TAFE Riverina Institute now offers online enrolments for 2011

People who want to study at Riverina Institute in 2011 will be able to enrol online from 6 December.
Students have been able to study online for years, but now they will be able to enrol using the internet, saving time and paperwork.

Students who are unsure about which course is right for them can still call or visit the campus to speak with the friendly staff to determine the best choice for them.

Courses are delivered on campus, in the workplace, via distance or online and can lead to qualifications at various levels – Statements of Attainment, Certificates I-IV, Diplomas and Advanced Certificates and Diplomas under the Australian Qualifications Framework.

Access your 2010 HSC Results

You will be able to access your results online or by SMS or telephone, available from 6.00am 15 December 2010. You will need your 8-digit Student Number and HSC PIN issued by the Board of Studies.

Recover your HSC PIN through Students Online, or by contacting Student Records on (02) 9367 8001. Remember, your Board of Studies Student Number and HSC PIN are different to your UAC Number and PIN.

Release of the 2010 ATAR

NSW Students:
You can access your ATAR from 9am on Thursday 16 December 2010.
You'll need your UAC application number or HSC student number and UAC PIN.
You'll receive written advice of your ATAR from UAC from Friday 17 December 2010.

ACT Students:
You can access your ATAR from 9am on Friday 17 December 2010.
You'll need your UAC application number or HSC student number and UAC PIN.
The ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies will issue the ACT Year 12 Certificate and Tertiary Entrance Statement (including ATAR) on Wednesday 15 December 2010. Students should collect their certificates from their college on or after this date.

If you have questions after the release of your ATAR, you can call the ATAR Enquiry Centre on (02) 8736 5900 during business hours from Thursday 16 December 2010. The ATAR Enquiry Centre will be open for a few days after the release of the ATAR.

The Darmasiswa Program – Indonesian Scholarship – Applications Close 30/11

The Darmasiswa program aims to foster interest in Indonesia’s language, culture and arts among friendly nations. The program first began in 1974, and was initially only for students from ASEAN countries. In 1976, the program was expanded and students from other countries such as Hungary, Norway, Mexico, Sweden, Canada, France, Australia and the USA were encouraged to apply.

The Darmasiswa Scholarships are funded by the Indonesian government, and several are offered annually to Australians wishing to undertake one year, non-degree programs at a tertiary level in Indonesia. Applications must be received by the Education and Cultural Section by the end of November, and are then sent to Jakarta for consideration. Successful applicants are notified mid-year, and travel to Indonesia to commence their studies in August/September.

Scholarship Allowance:
Participants will receive a monthly allowance and clothing allowance. University/institution tuition fees are also covered, as are many of the fees pertaining to immigration and visa services.

Basair Airline Pilot Career Workshops – Bankstown/Cessnock

Basair is offering the following series of workshops for anyone considering a career as an airline pilot. These workshops provide a valuable opportunity for potential pilots to find out about career prospects in aviation, how to enter the industry, as well as how to plan a career in aviation. They also provide two hours in-flight basic flying experience and one hour simulator training to evaluate the candidate's potential as a pilot.

Work Experience at Taronga Zoo & Taronga Western Plains Zoo

Taronga Zoo's Work Experience program is for school students who are interested in pursuing a career in zoo keeping, animal care or zoo horticulture. The program is suitable for school students in years 10, 11 and 12.

Applications are processed on a first come, first served basis from day one, term four each year until the program is full. The successful student is placed in one division for one week, subject to the availability of that division.
