Macquarie HSC University Pathways
University Pathways scheme is aimed at allowing a select number of high achieving students the opportunity to enrol in a university subject during their final year of the HSC. The program is restricted to those students who have achieved accelerated completion of at least one of their HSC subjects to a high standard (Band 6 or E4) before they commence year 12 - and therefore have the time available to undertake a university level course in tandem with their HSC year 12 studies. Students will need to complete a full HSC program independent of the units offered through this program, as the units undertaken at the University will not form part of the HSC. Similarly, the results from units undertaken at the University will not be included in the student's ATAR, which is based purely on results from approved HSC courses. The program will commence in first half-year 2011.

There will be no tuition fees for students who choose to study units at Macquarie University through this program. Textbooks, course readers, stationery and other material required to study the unit(s) are to be purchased by the student.

Resourcing Families provides support and information to families of children and young people with developmental disability in NSW. The service provides information and strategies to help families develop a vision, build and nurture support networks, and explore the possibilities of a self-directed approach.

How Young People are Faring ‘10 – National Report
How Young People are Faring is the pre-eminent national report on the learning-and-earning situation of young Australians.

The 2010 report reveals that despite Australia’s overall economic recovery, young people continue to feel the negative impacts of the global financial crisis. This is particularly true for teenage males.

• The unemployment rate for teenage males rose to 18.8%, compared to the current adult unemployment rate of just 5%

• The number of teenagers starting apprenticeships and traineeships dropped by more than 15,000, with two thirds of losses occurring in male-dominated trade occupations

• The proportion of teenagers ‘disengaged’ from work or education is 16.4%, which means that 246,000 teens – one in six – are currently not studying or working.

Employment Relations Forum – For Careers Advisors
The Global Forum in 2011 follows the highly successful World Congress on Industrial Relations held in Sydney in 2009 attended by more than 900 participants from over 40 countries. A number of keynote speakers from that congress are returning to Sydney to review international changes which have occurred since the Global Financial Crisis and its aftermath. The Forum will also provide an opportunity to review the effects of recent reforms in Australia in the context of the re-elected Labour government from a wide range of employer and union perspectives.

TSFX Summer School – HSC Prep - Sydney
Our Summer School Lectures are designed to provide students with the skills and advance preparation required to optimise their performance and improve their ranking in the HSC.

During the course of these lectures, we will review and then extend on the materials covered in Term 4 2010 as well as cover the required materials for Term 1 2011 to an A+ standard. In addition, students will gain critical exposure to questions and materials that are in limited supply, and develop the problem solving/analytical skills that are required to secure those higher scores. Any new changes to course content or assessment procedures will be appropriately addressed where required.

Students will also receive comprehensive notes that include all of the relevant theory (transcribed into student-friendly language), fully worked examples and take home questions. TAFE Sydney Institute New Courses
TAFE Sydney Institute has 2 new courses targeted at school leavers.

1) 2010 Media Bootcamp for students interested in taking a fast-tracked Certificate IV in Advertising Media.

The course runs for 5 weeks: 9-22 Dec and 10-28 Jan and will equip students with the skills needed to develop a career in the media advertising industry. Students will get top tips and real life insights into the advertising media world from a range of visiting industry experts from top companies including OZTAM / AGB Nielsen / BCC Media Research / Roy Morgan, JWT, TCO plus digital agencies and media sellers.
Past Media Bootcamp students have gone on to work at top agencies like IKON and Universal McCann as well as in a variety of in-house marketing positions. 2) New Career Start course in Sustainable Energy starts Feb 2011

Suitable for students interested in becoming an electrotechnology trainee or apprentice or who want to learn the latest green skills in sustainable energy. The Certificate II will provide training in solving simple circuit problems, providing basic sustainable energy solutions and promoting sustainable energy practices.

IPROWD: Training to assist Aboriginal people to get into the NSW Police College

IPROWD is a training program to assist Aboriginal people gain entry to the NSW Police College at Goulburn. This is the first step to becoming an officer in the NSW Police Force.

TAFE NSW, the NSW Police Force and Australian Government are working in partnership to offer IPROWD training at a range of locations across NSW.

IPROWD Training Programs will commence on 14 February 2011.

UMAT2011 will be held on Wednesday 27 July 2011
UMAT is used specifically to assist with the selection of students into medicine, dentistry and health science degree programs at undergraduate level.

UMAT is not based on any curriculum or subject areas; therefore you do not need any special knowledge. Intensive preparation is not advisable or necessary. However, as with any test, some practice in answering questions of a similar type, and under similar time constraints as those found in the real test, is helpful and reassuring to most candidates.

Hope & Home - Volunteering in Nepal
We provide Nepali culture and training for foreign volunteers who wish to render their services to Nepal. We send trained volunteers to schools and communities to generate awareness regarding environmental issues, sanitation, income generating initiatives, teaching English and health care.

Defence Technical Scholarships 2011
A Defence Technical Scholarship (DTS) is a fantastic opportunity for Year 11 and 12 students, intending to pursue an ADF general entry technical trade career after completing Year 12. The DTS rewards technically-savvy students for staying on at school and enrolling in specific subjects.

Year 11 recipients will receive $2000, paid over two semesters and successful Year 12 students will receive $3000, paid over two semesters. Although there is no obligation to join the Navy, Army or Air Force after finishing school, you will be required to tell us why you are interested in an ADF technical trade career as part of the selection process.

Applications will be sent to your school at the start of Term 1, and applications close 11 March 2011
