Education Expo 2010

A goldmine of financial incentives awaits the expo visitor. All you have to do is ask questions. For example, Country Energy has 75 scholarships to award this year.

If you are looking for a new school, talk to the principals and teachers at the expo and get a feeling for their school and if it would suit you.

If you need help with your academic work, find yourself a tutor or coaching college, or talk to the experts about study techniques and software programs.

Government agents such as the Board of Studies are very approachable in this friendly, easy atmosphere.

Then there are holiday programs, gap year options, overseas exchanges and adventure destinations. With quality information you can plot an exciting future for yourself.

Wondering what course to do at university? Match your potential and interests to the perfect course, undertake an assessment of your ability and see demonstrations of student projects.

Fancy working for a few years with the Police in the Northern Territory? Come and look at the opportunities offered by Service Organisations and talk to those who are doing it and love it.

Trades and training organisations offer courses in hundreds of careers that can take you all over Australia.

To keep your mind alert you need to a healthy body. Collect information on outdoor education, fitness programs, excursions and adventure activities. Then there's sport and recreation . . .

Whatever your age or ability, the expo can open your eyes to opportunities you may never have thought of.

AFL Sportsready Sporting Traineeships

AFL SportsReady traineeships are designed to apply to any industry -sport and non-sport. While the sports industry shows no sign of slowing compared with other sectors in the economy, there are often not enough jobs to go around. In addition, the sports sector does not always have access to vast amounts of money in order to fund positions. That is why the AFL traineeship program (because of the additional subsidies it exclusively offers to the sports sector) is so attractive.

However, young people today have so many opportunities to develop careers within other disciplines. For example, IT, Community Recreation, Health, Hospitality, Horticulture, Finance and Community Services.

AFL SportsReady can help you realise your dream in all these areas and many more.

"statistics showed the drop out rate for first year students was double that of other years"

"Between 30 and 40 per cent of school leavers did not feel that they were ready to make the decision that they had made about the program of study in which they have enrolled"

If you are finding the first year a struggle next year, remember that there is lots of support at all universities. You need to look for it.

"They need to appreciate they are not there on their own, that independent learning isn't a matter of them having to work things out for themselves. There are a range of people who are available to help them"
