The ICT sector must accommodate and drive change more than any other industry. Currently, outcries about skills shortages in this area mean that now, more than ever, is a great time to jump into the ‘ITC hot seat’. Recent research commissioned by the Australian Council of Deans of Science, shows that there might be a critical skills shortage of Information Technology (IT) workers in future years. So what does this mean for you? According to Riverina Institute’s Head of Studies for Business Information Technology and the Arts, Gail Farran, if you begin your studies now, you will have the chance to set yourself up in a ‘high demand’ career and you’ll be able to choose who you work for, when and where you work! “When IT had a big boom in the early 1990’s I think everyone thought the market would be saturated, but the reality is Australian industry is desperate for qualified workers in this field,” said Gail Farran. “ICT technicians are highly sought and will pretty much be able to name their price when it comes to future jobs,” she said. According to an article on ABC news (18 September) Michael Hedley from the Australian Information Industry Association says the skills shortage will reach a critical situation soon in the technology sector, and more workers are desperately needed. “Now is a great time for people to take advantage of our taster courses to see if they like the industry,” said Ms Farran. “IT courses at Riverina Institute link into higher level programs which means if you find you have a taste for IT, you can join one of the integrated Diploma Degrees in Network Engineering.” For more information about courses available call your nearest TAFE NSW Riverina Institute campus on 1300 138 318. | From 17 December 2007 | Term 4, Week 9, 10 - 16 December 2007 | Term 4, Week 8, 3 - 9 December 2007 | Term 4, Week 7, 26 November - 2 December 2007 | Term 4, Week 6, 19-25 November 2007 | Term 4, Week 5, 12-18 November 2007 | Term 4, Week 4, 5-11 November 2007 | Term 4, Week 3, 29 October - 4 November 2007 | Term 4, Week 2, 22-28 October 2007 | Term 4, Week 1, 15 - 21 October 2007 | 1 - 14 October 2007 | Term 3 2007 | August 7th - 12th 2007 | July 27th - August 6th 2007 | July 23rd - 26th 2007 | July 15th - 22nd 2007 | June 29th - July 14th 2007 | Semester 1, 2007 | | What's New 2008 | What's New 2007 | | Return Home | Main Home | What's New | Events Calendar | Post School | Course Search | Explore Careers | Careers Advice | Careers Advisers | Links | Contact Us | |
