Volunteering with Youth Challenge Australia

Youth Challenge Australia is an Australian-based, non-profit, non-government organisation that actively engages Australian youth in community identified projects. Since 1992, YCA has mobilised young volunteers to assist the growth of sustainable and positive development both internationally and in Indigenous Australia.

YCA recruits and trains volunteers to support projects in Indigenous Australia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, India, and Vanuatu.

Projects range from 5 to 10 weeks and leave at various times throughout the year.

2011 round of Rural and Remote Pharmacy scholarships

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia is inviting rural and remote students to apply for scholarships worth up to $40,000 to study pharmacy.

The Rural and Remote Pharmacy Scholarship Scheme has been established to provide financial support to encourage and enable students from rural and remote communities to undertake studies in pharmacy. Scholarship recipients are encouraged to seek employment in rural and remote areas following graduation.

The equivalent of 30 fulltime scholarships are available annually, valued at $10,000 per annum over a four year period (a maximum of $40,000 per student over a four-year period). Applicants can be in any year of undergraduate or postgraduate study.

Outward Bound - Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation

As a Registered Training Organisation, Outward Bound has the scope to deliver the Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation as part of their Instructor training program (Internship).

This program is designed not only to provide participants with nationally recognised qualifications, but also the experience to become valued members of the Outward Bound operational team, and the Outdoor Industry as a whole. It is an eight month residential program designed to train individuals as Group Instructors and Field Logistics personnel in the field of personal development, using the outdoors as a medium, and experiential education as the method.

There are  have two intakes of up to 15 interns each per year, in January and July. The next start date for the Internship program is 7th January 2011. The closing date for applications is the 22nd of October 2010.

National Summer Art Scholarship 2011

Artist, conservator, curator, designer, educator, multimedia, public relations, publishing …There’s more to a career in the visual arts than meets the eye!

Sydney Theatre School Scholarship 2011

Sydney Theatre School is offering one applicant for the Diploma of Theatre Performance in 2011 the opportunity to have the full fee amount ($6,950) covered by the school. The award will be made to an outstanding applicant who completes a successful audition and subsequently meets all of the selection criteria outlined below.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
* Outstanding overall performance during the audition process
* Comprehensive written statement outlining objectives of the applicant’s training program; future plans after training, and statements of why the award is merited
* Excellent secondary school record (especially in drama studies)
* Demonstrated ability to establish and pursue a career as an actor in theatre
* Financial need

APPLICATION PROCESS:
Applicants are required to submit a scholarship application form after their audition and after being offered a place on the program. The form will be provided by request on the day of the audition during the formal interview process.

The deadline for scholarship applications will be Friday 10th of December and the successful applicant will be notified by Friday 17th December. The successful applicant will be required to accept or decline within seven days and be prepared to start the term on Monday 7th February 2011.

New Facility for Dentistry Students in Dubbo

Regional dental patients and students of Dentistry have something to smile about with construction of the new Charles Sturt University (CSU) Dental and Oral Health Clinic in Dubbo now complete. "The clinic will have 16 dental chairs," explained senior lecturer Dr Sabrina Manickam. "Professional dentists and students from the School of Dentistry and Health Sciences at CSU will provide patient care in 2011." The new state-of-the-art dental clinic has been designed and constructed at a cost of $8 million, with funds from CSU, NSW Health and The University of Sydney. Dental staff from Greater Western Area Health Service (GWAHS) will be the first to occupy the new facility with the relocation of its public dental services currently provided from the Dubbo Community Dental Clinic in Ronald Street. The new CSU Dental and Oral Health Clinic will open for public patients on Monday 18th October.

Music Festival and Band Comp at CIT

MICfest 08 is a student music festival and showcase to be held on Thursday 20th November from 11.30pm – 7.30pm and Friday 21st November from 1.30pm – 9pm at the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) Music Industry Centre (MIC), Woden. This event launches emerging CIT student musicians from the MIC into the community and industry at large.

The festival is planned and run by current music, media production, journalism, public relations and digital communication students of CIT. MICfest is a celebration of student creativity and reflects the hard work and commitment of the CIT students.

"MICfest is an opportunity for the students to put into practice skills gained through studying at CIT. It is also an innovative way to assess our students and to showcase the talents of our young artists, producers, venue operators, filmmakers and marketers to industry and the community", says Communication, Media and Music Education Manager, Mr John Frohlich.

Gig goers, students and the general public are welcome and encouraged to attend and enjoy the usual event offerings of  food and plenty of open spaces to enjoy and interact with the performances. Aboriginal HSC Scholarships – Applications close this month

The RTA is offering scholarships for Aboriginal students studying year 11 or 12 at high school or TAFE in 2011. Up to $5000 is available for High School students to help them buy educational tools and services such as tutoring or text books. To receive a scholarship you need to include mathematics and science subjects in your study.

ATNF Work Experience Programs

The Australia Telescope National Facility offers high school students in year 10, 11 or 12 the opportunity to gain some experience in the workplace. The placement of work experience students must be negotiated through the school as part of a recognised work-experience program.

Work experience students at the ATNF spend one week at either the Australia Telescope Compact Array, located near Narrabri in North-West NSW, or at the Parkes Observatory near Parkes, Central-West NSW. Work experience students at Parkes or Narrabri are accommodated at the Observers Lodge free of charge. The Parkes Observatory also offers professional development opportunities for high school teachers. There is no work experience available at the Marsfield, Sydney site.

Australian Youth Ambassadors for Development

The Australian Youth Ambassadors for Development program (AYAD) places skilled young Australian volunteers, aged 18-30, on short-term assignments of between 3-12 months, in developing countries throughout the Asia Pacific region. The program offers young people a wonderful opportunity to contribute to development while at the same time learning about other cultures.

Youth Ambassadors work with Australian organisations and their overseas counterparts in a broad range of areas that include health, environment, rural development, gender, governance, justice, education and infrastructure development. Youth Ambassadors use their skills and expertise to actively contribute to international development. They gain an increased understanding of the development needs of our neighbouring countries and broaden their experience by living and working in a cross-cultural environment.
