CIT has won funding under the second round of the 2010 ACT Government's Productivity Places Program to offer specific programs, free of charge, to individuals who are seeking employment. ADFA Education Awards

The Australian Defence Force Academy Education Award is presented annually to Year 12 students in recognition of leadership potential, and academic and sporting achievements exhibited during Year 11.

The award comprises of a laptop computer and certificate for you, along with a plaque of recognition for your school. There are up to 100 awards available on behalf of the Navy, Army and Air Force which will be presented to suitable applicants who have applied for entry to ADFA. The ADFA Education Award is judged on Year 11 results, educational excellence, sporting prowess and leadership potential.

The ADFA Education Award is unbonded, which means there is no obligation to accept an offer to attend ADFA, nor is the ADF obliged to offer appointment to an award winner.

Rex Pilot Cadet Program

Regional Express is offering selected applicants placement in the Rex Pilot Cadet Program.  All suitable applicants will undergo special selection procedures to qualify as a Rex Cadet. Assistance will be provided with flying training and employment within the Rex Group will be available upon satisfactory completion of the training.

The next Rex Cadet Pilot intake (Rex 008) is projected to begin at the Australian Airline Pilot Academy (AAPA) , Wagga Wagga, around November 2010.

Applications for Nursing Scholarships closing soon!

The Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship and Support Scheme: Undergraduate (NAHSSS UG) is funded by Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

The scheme is an Australian Government initiative supporting students who are commencing or intending to commence an accredited nursing course at an Australian university or registered training organisation (RTO) that provides them with the ability to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

The scheme provides financial assistance in the form of a scholarship worth up to a total of $10,000 per year for three years full time study or $5,000 per year for up to six years part time study.

This scheme is now open and will close on 1 October 2010. Please note late applications will not be accepted

UTS First Year Law Peer Mentoring Program

In conjunction with the UTS Law Students’ Society (LSS), the program provides two benefits:
* a medium for new students to connect with their peers and senior law students, and
* an opportunity to focus on developing legal study skills.

Each mentor group is led by senior year UTS Law students who volunteer their time to share their experiences and offer helpful advice to new students settling into the study of law. All mentors receive training provided by the Faculty of Law. Mentors work in pairs and run hour-long sessions over the first six weeks of each semester.

This program is available to: all first year undergraduate and Juris Doctor students, including part-time and International students. UTS Bachelor of Science in Games now available to school leavers

The revised Bachelor of Science in Games Development will be available to school leavers from 2011. New subjects have also been added to this course for 2011.

Today’s games are large sophisticated computer programs that model 3D worlds in detail, implementing realistic physics, with believable computer controlled characters that connect thousands of players through virtual worlds. Game designers must create and manage the social, economic, and governance structures of these virtual worlds, addressing issues of plot, character development and storyline, integrating these in a real-time programming environment.

This course will provide you with a sound education in all aspects of information technology as well as the diverse range of skills necessary for a career in computer games development.

How to apply:
Current School Leavers
If you are completing Year 12 in 2010 you will be eligible to apply for the Bachelor of Science in Games Development. You must apply through UAC and the course will be added onto the UAC website as a new course for school leavers – UAC code 603225.
Non-current School Leavers
Non-current school leavers can still apply for this course. The pathway with the Diploma of Information Technology (Games Development) (19050) at TAFE NSW is still applicable. Students who enrol in the Bachelor of Science in Games Development and who have completed 19050 Diploma of Information Technology (Games Development) will be eligible for 48 credit points of recognition of prior learning (RPL).

Discover Architecture - Summer School UTS

If you're thinking about a career in architecture, why not see what it's like at the UTS Discover Architecture Summer School? The inaugural 2011 UTS DISCOVER ARCHITECTURE short course will use Sydney's central business district as an architectural laboratory. Structured around an intensive design studio learning experience, participants will sketch, design and model a range of design proposals for small spaces in the city as part of the City of Sydney Laneways redevelopment initiative.

Participants will:
- Explore Sydney's CBD and learn how to see it through an architect's eye
- Make models and drawings using advanced digital tools, including architectural software, rapid prototypers, laser cutters and scanners.
- Meet and work with cutting edge architects working at local, national and international levels
- Learn how to think about and design architecture from UTS lecturers and recent graduates
- Meet others interested in a career in architecture.

Who Should Attend?
The UTS DISCOVER ARCHITECTURE short course is primarily aimed at year 11 high school students who are making decisions about what degree to undertake for their university studies. This course is also for those considering a change in career and who would like to experience the design studio culture that makes UTS architecture such a unique learning experience. The course is open to a maximum of 40 students.

UTS:Science Scholarship for High Academic Achievers

UTS:Science has introduced a new ‘High Achievers Scholarship Program’. The program is aimed at recognising students who have distinguished themselves academically. Students with a minimum ATAR of 99.5, will be eligible for one of two, $10,000 one-off Dean of Science’s Merit Scholarships. Students in this category can apply to any of UTS Science’s Bachelor’s degrees. Students with a minimum ATAR of 98 and above, applying to varying science courses, will be rewarded with $1,000 per-annum for 3 years* as recognition of their achievements.

No application is required. However, you must apply for an eligible course and put UTS Science as your first preference on your UAC application. Of course, you have to make sure you get the ATAR!

Bayerboost Environmental Scholarship

The Australian Geographic Society in conjunction with Bayer Australia has recently announced a new environmental scholarship program. The BAYERboost environmental scholarship is open to all Australian secondary students in Year 11 or 12 interested in a career in environmental science. The scholarship will give students the opportunity to take on a research project in a university or industry setting during the summer holidays.

Nepean Disability Expo

The Nepean Disability Expo is held every second year and is a major event in the region’s Disability Sector with over 80 exhibitors at this year's event. All the latest disability information, services, technology, vehicles, equipment suppliers and providers will be available to people with a disability and their families.

This year’s Expo will also have an added attraction of interactive demonstrations of indoor and outdoor accessible sporting and recreational opportunities that are available within the Nepean, Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury regions for people with a disability or special needs. Some of the sporting and recreational activities on display will include; boccia, indoor netball, lawn bowls, tennis, soccer, rugby league, sailing and self-defence, and many will offer supported ‘Come & Try’ sessions. The National Disability Coordination Officer (NDCO) program and TAFE Western Sydney Institute will also be attending to provide information on tertiary options.

Gap year can prepare students for uni life

Gap years can help clarify what students want to do, a study has found.

Increasing numbers of students are taking gap years between school and university, and although some contend that the gap year may be a negative thing or a waste of time, a new study by Sydney university's Professor Andrew Martin from the Faculty of Education and Social Work, has found that a gap year can both help some students prepare for university life and clarify what they want to do.

The Actor's College of Theatre and Television in Sydney is offering two-day Youth Acting & Film-making Holiday Workshops.

Youth Acting
Working in small groups, the course focuses on fun, play and storytelling to free the imagination and develop spontaneity and confidence. So, whether you have no acting experience or you have already attended a basic course, or just want to build on school drama this could be the right course for you.

Youth Film-making
Bring your camera-phones, bloggies, flips, camcorders or digital cameras. You will learn how to produce great short video clips and get an in-depth grounding in how to start making your own short films. You will learn how to use all kinds of ideas and objects as possible source materials for very unique pieces of theatre or film and find out about genre, collaboration, storyboards, scripting, camera angles, shooting and editing.
