At QUT, we're aware of the uncertainty many school leavers have about life after high school.

That’s why last year, we launched the QUT Make it website - designed with school leavers in mind, and packed with helpful tools to help them make informed study choices.

In the interests of staying one step ahead, we surveyed school leavers to find out what changes they wanted to see. Make it is now even better, with loads more colour, enhanced navigation and a more streamlined journey to the information they really need to know.

John Flynn Medical Students Placement Program

If you will be in the first or second year of a medical degree in 2010, you may be eligible for a place in the John Flynn Placement Program.
Each year medical students enrolled in accredited medical courses at one of 20 participating universities can apply for a place in the program. From 2009, 300 new placements will be available each year.
There is one application intake each year, which is generally between February and April. Once accepted on the JFPP, students are placed with a rural doctor and a local contact person for a minimum of two full weeks per year, normally over a four year period. Students are placed in the same community each year and are expected to complete the entire eight weeks of placements by the last holiday period following completion of their medical course.
Students work closely with a rural doctor in a wide variety of health settings and experience one on one mentoring. This type and level of mentoring for students is unique and will supplement the experience of a University clinical rotation in a hospital or general practice.
The JFPP covers the cost of travel and accommodation for students to go on placement and ACRRM provides assistance with these arrangements. In addition to this students are paid $500 per week to cover food and living expenses during the placement.

    Rural Australia Medical Undergraduate Scholarship

RAMUS assists selected students from rural and remote areas to study medicine at university. Scholarship holders receive $10,000 a year during the completion of a standard medical degree at their chosen university. The scholarships are not bonded. Instead, scholarship holders’ ties to regional and rural Australia are reinforced through a rural mentorship program, as well as through membership of their university’s student rural health club.

Each year approximately 100 new scholarships are made available, to maintain the total of 550.

Established in 2000, the Rural Australia Medical Undergraduate Scholarship (RAMUS) scheme is an Australian Government intiative aimed at increasing the number of medical practitioners in rural and remote areas of Australia. The aim of the scheme is to increase the number of students with a rural background who enter and complete their study of medicine at university.

    Applications open in November.
