The cut-off for admission to UNSW engineering programs in 2010 is expected to be a UAI (or equivalent) of 88.00. From 1 July 2009, the path to becoming an Enrolled Nurse will change from the previous model, where NSW Health employed each trainee, to one where people are trained before being employed. Kate Baxter, who is a Director of Educational Delivery for TAFE said, "The changes mean students will study at TAFE to gain a qualification before they are employed, and will gain practical experience through structured clinical placements in hospitals and other health facilities organised as part of their TAFE training. "Two hundred new fully funded scholarships for Enrolled Nursing students will be available through TAFE NSW Institutes in July this year. 31 of these places are available for students in western NSW to study at Bathurst, Orange or Dubbo TAFE Colleges. "A further 200 scholarship places will be available in January 2010 and 50 of those will be targeted to newly arrived immigrants who have appropriate English language skills. "TAFE Western is ready to accept applications for the first scholarship places. It takes 18 months of full time study for students to complete the Diploma of Enrolled Nursing", Kate Baxter said. Details about entry requirements and scholarship application forms will be available at information sessions to be held in Bathurst TAFE on 9th and 16th June, Orange TAFE on 9th and 12th June and Dubbo TAFE on 9th and 15th June. The aim of the Scheme is to help address the under-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in health professions and assist in increasing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with professional health qualifications. The scholarship provides financial assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are undertaking study or are intending to undertake study at an undergraduate or TAFE (Certificate IV and above)level in the areas of: •Aboriginal health worker •Alcohol and other drugs workers •Allied health (excluding pharmacy) •Dentistry/oral health •Health service management •Health promotion •Medicine •Mental health •Midwifery •Nursing The Scheme will open on the 27 June 2009 http://www.rcna.org.au/scholarships/puggy_hunter ![]() ![]() RCNA Australian Government Scholarships The Nurse Scholarship Program: Rural and Remote Undergraduate Scheme provides funding for undergraduate students from rural and remote areas of Australia who are undertaking a Registered/Division 1 nursing degree. In 2008 there were 130 scholarships available under this scheme. Of these: •100 were designated for undergraduate study •10 scholarships were designated for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants •20 scholarships were designated for enrolled nurses studying towards their Registered/Division 1 nursing qualifications. Applications not yet open for 2010 The Aged Care Nursing Scholarship Scheme is an Australian Government initiative aimed at encouraging more people to enter aged care nursing, particularly in regional, rural and remote Australia. The Scheme provides financial assistance of up to $5,000 per semester, to a maximum of $30,000 per applicant, to assist in meeting costs incurred while studying undergraduate nursing. Scholarships will be available to students in any year of an undergraduate nursing degree. It is a continuation of the Queensland Youth Aerospace Forum (QYAF) which has been enjoyed by hundreds of students over the past ten years. The forum will highlight aerospace engineering or avionics options for university and higher education and the employment possibilities in the industry after graduation. AYAF is run by a team of young aerospace and avionics enthusiasts, many of whom are students studying related courses at university. AYAF will provide an invaluable opportunity for you to share their experiences of the industry and get advice on university life. Attendees will also visit two of Australia’s top aerospace engineering and avionics universities; the University of Queensland and the Queensland University of Technology. Attendees will hear from lecturers, industry specialists and current engineering, aerospace avionics and science students about pathways into the aerospace industry, including new technologies and research projects. A hands-on approach to experiencing the excitement of aerospace is fostered through group projects. The forum runs from 6–10 July 2009 with accommodation on campus at the University of Queensland, Brisbane for only $150.
