Students in years 11 and 12 came out to the campus for a day to learn all about careers in the games, 3D animation and Visual FX industries. Throughout the day students did hands on training learning 3D animation skills enabling them to create 3D objects using industry standard software. They also learnt about programming for games and the processes, tools and languages involved. Amongst the action were Indie Gameplay sessions which were popular with all the students. One of the main features of the day was the Industry guest speaker from a leading Sydney games studio who spoke to the students about his role as a lead animator and what pathways he took to get to his position today. After his presentation students had the opportunity to partake in a Q&A session. Fielded with multiple questions, our guest speaker provided answers to what employers look for in graduates, what working in the games industry is like, how his training at the AIE Canberra campus helped get him where he is today and many other questions from eager students aspiring to one day follow a similar pathway. We’ll be running more Industry Experience Days through the year. Bookings are essential as places are limited.
