At its heart, Schools First brings together students, teachers, parents and community members to help young people grow. Launched in October 2008 by the Hon. Julia Gillard, MP, Schools First is a national awards program pledging $15 million over three years. The program provides: •financial recognition of success in establishing effective school-community partnerships; and •financial support to build stronger school-community partnerships. In 2010, 108 school-community partnerships will benefit from Schools First with over $5 million committed. Any school in Australia can apply for a Schools First Award. Between April and June 2010, we're running a series of public Partnership Forums in metro and regional centres around Australia. Registrations for the Partnership Forums open Wednesday, 10 March 2010 and places are limited. If you can't make it to a Partnership Forum, you will soon be able to view a session online. A national online survey, called Tell Us: Are you more than your marks? By logging onto www.tellus.org.au, students can complete a short survey, and go into the draw to win some exciting prizes, including iPod touches, pocket cameras and education and learning opportunities. Students can also get creative and speak up using video, text or photography.
