For more details email Craig Roberts c.roberts@unsw.edu.au ![]() ![]() Governor-General’s Indigenous Student Teacher Scholarship Program The Governor-General’s Indigenous Student Teacher Scholarship Program aims to assist and support Indigenous university students to obtain a teaching degree. Scholarships will be awarded annually to one teacher education student from each state and territory with up to eight scholarships awarded each year. Students who have been successful in obtaining the scholarship will be awarded $25,000 per year, for up to four years, to assist with study costs. To be eligible for a scholarship, an applicant must be an Indigenous Australian and undertake fulltime study in an undergraduate teaching degree. It shows them just how fun science can be - not to mention where it can take them. The program features over 200 timetabled activities and attracts over 5,000 visitors throughout the extravaganza. Teachers can tailor a program to suit their class by selecting from the huge range of activities on offer including shows, workshops, seminars, tours, competitions and lectures. Science in the City is always held in early August and runs over two weeks. To ensure students get the most out of their day, each week is dedicated to a certain education/knowledge level. The first week is for high school students whilst the second week is for primary school students. Mentoring is provided by Codarra Advanced Systems. 2007 Winners - Dickson College | 2008 Winners - Karabar High School 2009 (joint) Winners - Karabar High School and Penrith High School Codarra Advanced Systems is located in Queanbeyan and provides professional services in information, communications and technology based solutions. They specialise in military systems including command, control, surveillance, reconnaissance and vehicles especially on behalf of the Australian Department of Defence. They are also a Registered Training Organisation providing a wide range of accredited courses to the Australian government. The objectives of the challenge are: •To provide a hands-on learning experience that will challenge and excite students •To expose students to engineering as a career •To develop an awareness of career opportunities in technical fields What will the students do? •Each team of students will create their own robotic vehicle that will operate autonomously to achieve various goals on the challenge day •Each team will write a report describing the design and testing results. The quality and presentation of the report will be used to assist with judging the winning entry For the last three years, Codarra has partnered with the Student to Industry Program (SIP) in the ACT and the Capital Region Business Enterprise Centre (BEC) in Queanbeyan to deliver an Adopt a School Program ASP. The Challenge is unlike any other programming competition because we will teach you how to program as we go along rather than expecting you to be an expert coder already. However, if you are a seasoned coder, we have something for you too because the problems will range from relatively simple through to mind-bendingly hard.
