This site is hosted by MHS Careers, which has excellent links to other careers sites, state based career information updates, and a careers event calender. You can register your email address with MHS to receive regular career updates to your own email account. This service is available to all members of our school community - students, parents and staff. Additionally, it contains our own Port High page which I will update with more local careers news regularly. Students should also note that I will also be emailing them with relevant information from time to time. If you have not been active with your school email account, then do check it regularly. This will be particularly important for Year 12 students, who will be confronted with a large number of opportunities that may require application with strict closing dates. Year 10 students should all have completed their necessary preparations for work experience. They are now able to start organising their work experience placements, or discuss possible placements with myself. Youth Allowance - The much debated Youth Allowance legislation has finally been amended and passed. The implications are significant, particularly for many Year 12 leavers who have been contemplating deferring post school study in order to prove financial independence. The income threshold cut off figures have been increased, meaning that more students will qualify without proving financial independence. All Student Allowance recipients will automatically qualify for scholarships. The rules on proving financial independence are now tougher, unless you live in an outer regional, remote or very remote area according to the ABS. Note that Port Macquarie is classified as " inner regional" , and therefore, is subject to the same rules as our city cousins. Some outer parts of the Hastings are considered "Outer Regional " . Every family's situation is likely to be different. Business Industry Showcase - An expo with a strong emphasis on apprenticeship, traineeship and jobs. Tuesday 18 May at P.M. Racecourse. We will be running buses. University of Newcastle Schools Visit Day - Thursday July 1. We will be running a coach down for all Year 12 students considering university study. Future Options Expo - Thursday 29 July. An Expo with a strong emphasis on university and other tertiary education and training, and related jobs. Buses to Camden Haven High School for all Year 12 students.
