Parkes High School Newsletters

12 February 2010

Welcome back to school from the Careers Department. This Term is gearing up to
be very busy with a number of programs and activities in place. These include:
Wollongong Discovery Days
Yr 12 Career Interviews
Year 11 Career Interviews
Try-A-Trade Day
Year 10 Work Experience and Vocational Awareness Night
CSU My Days.

YEAR 12 DISCOVERY DAYS:
On February 4th 26 Year 12 students had the opportunity to attend Wollongong University
Discovery Days. This is a program held over five days involving schools from around the state.
Students are given the opportunity to attend lectures and spend the day experiencing what it is like to
be a first year university student. The experience for Parkes High students included; hearing from
speakers on how to cope with the HSC, tips on making career choices, finding their way around
campus, attending lectures and getting a feel for life at University. The day proved highly successful
reaffirming the need to work hard during the HSC, as well as providing year 12 with some back-
ground knowledge of what they will encounter when thinking about their future career options. I
would like to thank Year 12 who were fine ambassadors for our school and add a special mention to
Ms Nicholson for her support and assistance during the excursion.
