Entries must tell a real scientific story, which may be a scientific concept, discovery, invention, or the producer's own scientific hypothesis! Anything goes, but keep the science in the story, and keep the science real. Entries are to take the form of a 1-3 minute film. This competition is about scientific content and communication of the content, not production values i.e. judging criteria are not related to how much money is spent on production and editing. While good quality production is encouraged, this will not be a major consideration in judging entries. 1st place wins $4,000 and a $500 book voucher from Abbey’s Bookshop in Sydney, 2nd place wins $2,000 and 3rd place wins $1,000. The Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards aim to capture the imagination of school students across Australia, inspiring them with a passion for poetry. The program will give you the opportunity to learn about work and success in different careers – straight from the lips of some of Australia’s top professionals. Beyond equipping you to make wise career decisions, the program aims to cultivate in young men an awareness of the bigger picture, extending to an understanding and sense of responsibility for society and your relationships with family and friends. We would like to see talented young men develop into well-rounded individuals – men of character who will make a lasting impact on society. Download the ANET submission to the current senate inquiry into engineering skill shortages at www.anet.org.au SURVEY HEADLINE RESULTS: 60.6% of respondents identified an engineering skills shortage in their work section. More than half of comments identified that a specific discipline or area is in short supply. 40.2% of respondents felt that their organisation did not have the right skills mix to meet current or future needs. 54.3% of respondents identified a loss of capability in their workplace. Engineers identified a range of broader impacts of the underutilisation of their skills and capabilities in the workplace and organisation. 34.3% of commenters identified an impact on efficiency and effectiveness 25% identified an impact on productivity 17.1% identified a loss of organisational capability The majority of engineers felt that their employer supported them to exercise their full range of skills and capabilities.
