If you’re looking for the chance to do things you don’t do in normal life, then the Australian Defence Force Cadets is for you. The Australian Defence Force Cadets is a community-based youth development organisation focused on Defence customs, traditions and values.

You’ll get a uniform and learn drill, communications, first aid, navigation, orienteering and safe weapons handling. Gap Year Medical Placements

Gap Medics is a specialist company that is dedicated to arranging hospital work experience placements for students who are applying to medical or nursing school. Their Head Office is in Newcastle upon Tyne in England, but students join them from all over the world – in particular the UK, USA, Canada, Australia.

Defence Technical Scholarships

A Defence Technical Scholarship (DTS) is a fantastic opportunity for Year 11 and 12 students, intending to pursue an ADF general entry technical trade career after completing Year 12. The DTS rewards technically-savvy students for staying on at school and enrolling in specific subjects.

Year 11 recipients will receive $2000, and Year 12 students will receive $3000. Although there is no obligation to join the Navy, Army or Air Force after finishing school, you will be required to tell us why you are interested in an ADF technical trade career as part of the selection process.

Sydney Film School Diploma of Screen & Media course

The Diploma of Screen and Media combines the teaching of theoretical/creative processes and practical hands-on film production, with the emphasis on practice.
The classes in both drama and documentary production cover all essential aspects of filmmaking: from Pre-production (research, script writing, pitching, casting, production management, design etc), to Production (crewing, working with actors, lighting, filming, recording etc) and Post-production (editing, music, sound mixing, copyright, distribution etc).
The practical process, in both 16mm and digital film training, is supported with sessions in Screen Language, Australian Cinema and Meet the Filmmaker special guest screenings.

Google Science Fair 2012

Submissions due by April 1st 2012

The Google Science Fair is an online science competition seeking curious minds from the four corners of the globe. The competition is open to students aged 13 to 18 from around the world working on their own or in a team of two or three.

All entrants will use a Google Site to showcase their project submission. A Google Site is an easy way to create a website without having to know any computer coding.

Once your project submission is complete, you will need to submit it by 1 April 2012. We recommend that you look through the Judging Criteria to ensure that you’ve met the requirements and have a good sense of what the judges will be looking for.

Relay for Life – Cancer Council

Relay For Life is an incredible overnight event that is an opportunity for family, friends and colleagues to get together with the community and celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to cancer, and fight back against a disease that takes too much.

It is a unique event where teams of 10 to 15 challenge themselves to take turns to keep a baton moving in a relay style walk or run overnight. Each event is unique and you can stay for the whole event, camp overnight, or just visit and enjoy the free entertainment, prizes and ceremonies that make Relay For Life so inspirational.

Each person on the team pays a registration fee which includes a polo shirt and breakfast at the event. Participants are supported in their fundraising efforts in the lead up to the event.
