As a cadet you’ll learn leadership, team building and survival skills that will set you up for life. As a cadet you’ll get to visit military bases, messes and ships and crawl all over planes, tanks and other equipment. You’ll get a uniform and learn drill, communications, first aid, navigation, orienteering and safe weapons handling. You’ll get to meet serving men and women who’ll tell you about life in the Australian Defence Force. And, depending on the organisation you join, you could also learn how to fly, glide or sail.

Gap Medics is a specialist company that is dedicated to arranging hospital work experience placements for students who are applying to medical or nursing school. Their Head Office is in Newcastle upon Tyne in England, but students join them from all over the world – in particular the UK, USA, Canada, Australia.

Their placements offer students from age 16 upwards a genuine insight into the work of doctors and nurses in Africa, India and the Caribbean. Their comprehensive support service is designed to make these opportunities as safe and secure as possible, calling on all their experience from placing thousands of students in healthcare settings around the world since 2005.

The programs run by Gap Medics include Pre-Medicine, Pre-Nursing, Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Midwifery and Community Volunteering.

Scientists and Engineers in the space industry compete to fly their experiments on board the International Space Station. Thanks to the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, The Asia Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum and the Victorian Space Science Education Centre, you could have the opportunity to test your own experiment on board the International Space Station in the Japanese experiment module, Kibo.

The question for this year’s Try Zero-G competition is: "Using only items found on the ISS what experiment would you like to perform?"

The Australian Defence Force Academy Education Award is presented annually to Year 12 students in recognition of leadership potential, and academic and sporting achievements exhibited during Year 11. The award comprises of a laptop computer and certificate for you, along with a plaque of recognition for your school. There are up to 100 awards available on behalf of the Navy, Army and Air Force which will be presented to suitable applicants who have applied for entry to ADFA.

Relay For Life is an incredible overnight event that is an opportunity for family, friends and colleagues to get together with the community and celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to cancer, and fight back against a disease that takes too much.

It is a unique event where teams of 10 to 15 challenge themselves to take turns to keep a baton moving in a relay style walk or run overnight. Each event is unique and you can stay for the whole event, camp overnight, or just visit and enjoy the free entertainment, prizes and ceremonies that make Relay For Life so inspirational.

Each person on the team pays a registration fee which includes a polo shirt and breakfast at the event. Participants are supported in their fundraising efforts in the lead up to the event.
