Your job is to maintain, operate and repair communications and control systems, predominantly in the field. Rail Overhead Line Worker As an overhead line worker you construct and maintain high voltage transmission lines and 1500-volt overhead rail-traction wiring and associated equipment. Electrical RailCorp offer electrical apprenticeships across three areas of specialisation: Signals, Substation Distribution and Rollingstock. As well as gaining comprehensive training and experience in the rail industry, as an electrical apprentice you are given experience with private contractors and are given the necessary training to gain an electrician’s licence. Plant Mechanics As an apprentice plant mechanic you’ll learn skills to assist in the maintenance of RailCorp’s heavy on-track machinery including track and point regulators and overhead wiring machines. Fitter As an apprentice fitter you are trained in the maintenance of train pneumatic braking systems, pneumatic doors, direct and hydraulic drive systems and diesel engines. Cable Jointer As a cable jointer you are involved in the make and repair of joints in insulated power supply and control cables installed in underground pipes, trenches, and/or overhead supply systems.
