Ella Bache Open Days

The Ella Baché College of Skin and Beauty Therapy offers training in Beauty Therapy with access to a network of over 200 Ella Baché Salons and 35 David Jones stores nationally that provide work experience and jobs for students. In fact, over 70% of their students start their careers within the Ella Baché network. Qualifications available are:

Skillex NSW - a unique skills-focused event

Skillex NSW has been developed to help address current and future skills’ needs. Skillex NSW will be free for the public to attend and will be held over 3 days at Sydney Olympic Park, Thursday 21 to Saturday 23 October 2010. Careers in Sport Workshops - New Dates

Careers in Sport Workshops
Do you want to work in sport? This interactive day will look at the wide range of sporting careers available. Guest speakers from a variety of sports will then add their ‘real life’ experiences of working in sport. Students will leave with a wider insight into the range of careers in the sports world. Also suitable for students studying: SLR Modules: Social Perspectives of Games and Sport and PASS Modules: Opportunities and pathways in physical activity and sport. Afternoon activities will be a choice from a guided tour of Sydney Olympic Park or a swimming at the Aquatic centre.

Event Management in Sport Workshops
This interactive workshop will examine the skills needed to run a sports event using practical examples from a major international Tournament. Using Tennis NSW as an example, we will look at the warm up tournament to the Australian Open. You’ll also get a behind the scenes look at the venues. Great for students studying SLR modules: Sports administration and PASS modules in Event management. Afternoon activities will be a choice from a guided Tour of Sydney Olympic Park or a swimming at the Aquatic centre.

2011 UAC Guides for Year 12 Coming Soon

The UAC 2011 Guide will be distributed to all schools very soon and will be available for purchase from newsagents in early August. Careers Advisers will receive one copy for each current Year 12 student.

UNE Early Entry and Scholarships

If you are currently in year 12 and thinking of studying full time at UNE next year, there are two things you can do right now to help you get a much better start to university. Apply for UNE Early Entry and apply for an undergraduate scholarship.

Early Entry gives current Year 12 students the opportunity to receive an offer of a place from UNE in early December based on their school’s recommendation - high achieving students not eligible for a UAI should also apply through this program. Successful applicants are secure in the knowledge that they have a guaranteed place in the course they want, at the University of their choice.

Scholarships are a great way to make the financial side of studying a bit easier. There are a number of scholarships open to students starting their degree, ranging in value from small to large scholarships, or one-off bursaries.

Art and Design Education Resource Guide

The 'Art and Design Education Resource Guide'(ADERG) for 2010 has been printed and sent to each NSW High School with a Year 12 cohort. It is a comprehensive guide to art and design courses at universities, TAFE colleges and private schools in Australia.

The 2010 edition has 240 pages, a comprehensive directory, course selection charts and over 650 pictures of graduate work. Each copy comes with a free A2 (420 x 594mm) full-colour poster. Each year ADERG is completely revised to contain the latest information. ADERG contains information about all of the institutions offering art and design courses as well as showcasing the work of recent graduates. The highly visual content is inspirational and informative. ADERG is published in two formats: online and in print. The printed edition is published annually and contains colour pages of graduate work presented by institution/program/course, a subject selection matrix and a comprehensive directory of all courses.

NSW Teacher's Scholarships - Applications now open

Here's a great way to get your teaching career off to a flying start: the NSW Department of Education and Training's 2011 Teacher Education Scholarship Program is now open for applications. Whether you're completing your HSC, studying a relevant course at university, or working in another field and considering a career change, a teaching scholarship will get you on your way.

This year, up to 300 scholarships are available for talented students to train as teachers in secondary maths, science or English, and in special education (K-12). At least 80 of these scholarships are available exclusively for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students to train as teachers in primary or any secondary subject.

As a scholar, you'll receive a $5,000 annual training allowance while studying full time for a teaching qualification. When you complete your studies, you are guaranteed permanent employment in a NSW public school in an agreed location and awarded a further $3,000 to assist with expenses such as relocation costs. Over four years, the duration of most education degrees, you will receive $23,000 to spend as you wish. As a teacher you are also eligible for the HECS-HELP benefit from the Commonwealth Government worth up to $1,558.50 per annum following graduation.

NSW HSC Online is designed to be a one-stop-shop for Years 11 and 12 students as they approach their NSW HSC exams. It is a Charles Sturt University initiative in collaboration with the Department of Education.

The Study and Exams area of NSW HSC Online contains a wealth of information. Integral Energy Work Experience

Integral Energy gives year 10, 11 or 12 high school students the chance to do work experience and develop possible career options. This program provides placements in their technical training centre in Hoxton Park in Western Sydney.

Work experience placements have been successful in allowing students to:
• Observe a variety of work situations
• Undertake safe and well-supervised work appropriate to a student’s skill level
• Ask questions about the workplace
• Find out about training and employment opportunities

Integral Energy will only accept applications for work experience from high school students. No applications will be accepted from organisations representing students.

Work Experience is only offered for the specific dates below. No other dates or duration other than the stated below can be accommodated. Naturally, work experience is voluntary and unpaid.

The Job Guide 2010 website includes hundreds of occupational profiles. It is a fantastic way to learn about all kinds of jobs and is available in three versions:
* Graphic
* Text (suitable for slower connections and for users of screen readers)
* Mobile (suitable for viewing with your mobile phone)

The Job Guide is written and produced for a Year 10 audience. It is distributed to schools with Year 10 students each year. Each school receives one copy per Year 10 student and several reference copies. Reference copies are distributed to senior schools or colleges with Year 11 and 12 enrolments. Job Guide is also distributed to career advisers at all TAFEs and universities as well as youth-focused Australian Government funded programs that provide career advice and support to Year 10 students

JumpSTART NSW is a program designed to help young people take up careers in the public sector. The NSW Government is offering five hundred entry-level cadetships to HSC school leavers every year for the next three years. The NSW public sector is the largest employer in the state, with workplaces all over the state, and an amazing range of jobs and careers. What's a cadetship?

Meet A Keeper - Taronga Zoo

Meet-A-Keeper is a one-day program for school students aged 14 years and over who have expressed a keen interest in pursuing a career at the Zoo but perhaps can't attend Work Experience.

This unique program includes a seminar presented by a talented panel of Zookeepers, Zoo Educators and other Zoo staff members. Students have the opportunity to learn about all aspects of zoo-keeping, including:

  • Career opportunities
  • The qualifications required
  • Core responsibilities
  • Careers structures and wages
  • Mystery 'Behind-the Scenes' tour

These themes and more are explored via a presentation in the morning session, which runs from approximately 10.30am - 11.45am.

Afterwards, guests are invited to explore the zoo as they make their own way to a "Mystery behind the scenes" animal tour*. Times for tours vary and are arranged at time of booking. Mystery tours run for approximately 25-35 minutes and are distributed by staff on the day. *Mystery tours may change on the day according to availabilty.
