TAFE NSW - Sydney Institute Scholarship opportunities - CLOSES 8 JULY 2011

2011 Scholarship Program at Sydney Institute

Are you keen to study but wonder how you’ll afford it? Would you like some financial assistance with your course fees? Sydney Institute has established a scholarship program to provide students from varied backgrounds with financial assistance so they can focus more effectively on their studies.

Scholarships are targeted towards prospective students who face significant financial barriers to study. Most scholarships are in Diploma courses and are offered over one or two years. Scholarship recipients will have their course fees and some course-related expenses covered.

Closing date for scholarship applications Applications for 2011 Semester 2 scholarships close 8 July 2011.

University of Wollongong Events

University of Wollongong has a range of events coming up in the near future. Please read the following:

University of Wollongong - Year 12: Early Entry Applications for Early Entry open on Friday 1st July 2011; this is the last day of term 2, and will close at 5pm on Thursday 1st September. No trial HSC results are required in the online application; as such students should have all required information when applications open on July 1st. The full Early Entry application Guide will be available online at http://www.uow.edu.au/future/earlyenty/index.html from the end of May.
Interviews for Early Entry will take place at the Wollongong campus from September 26th - 30th. Applicants are expected to be available to attend interviews as required during these dates.
The biggest change this year to Early Entry is the inclusion of most Creative Arts degrees on the online application used by all other faculties.

University of Wollongong - Open Night
Wednesday 8th June 2011 @ Wollongong Campus Campus tours from 3:30pm followed by the opportunity for students to attend individual faculty information sessions to learn more about study areas offered by the faculty, what studying in the faculty is like and where a degree from the faculty can lead after university.
Each faculty session will be run 3 times throughout the evening allowing students to indulge their curiosity and hear from more than one faculty.
Faculty sessions run between 5:40 and 8:30pm.
Students will need to book online at http://www.uow.edu.au/future/events/index.html and register for the individual faculty sessions they wish to attend.

University of Wollongong - Year 10 Information Evening For all 2011 Year 10 students and their parents on Tuesday 24th May 2011 (6:30 - 8:30pm).
Location - University Hall, Wollongong Campus Students will have the opportunity to hear from the Board of Studies about their HSC and subject selection, from Professor Graeme Williams about ATAR and Scaling and will also be able to speak to staff from all nine faculties about individual degrees and requirements.

Cabinet Making

Cabinet makers make or repair furniture using solid timber, flat-panel or timber-based products.
 
Cabinet makers may perform the following tasks:
 
·        Prepare drawings from specifications or work out job requirements by looking at drawings and specifications
·        Select and prepare timber and manufactured board
·        Mark out, cut and shape pieces using saws, chisels, planes, power tools and woodworking machines
·        Trim and glue joints and fit parts together to form sections of furniture
·        Place sections in clamps, apply pressure and reinforce joints with nails, dowels and screws
·        Assemble sections to form completed articles
·        Fit hinges, locks, catches, drawers and shelves
·        Install completed products
·        Repair damaged furniture and cabinets
·        Make jigs, templates or prototypes for the production of furniture.
 
Cabinetmakers may specialise in particular areas such as reproduction of antique furniture, kitchen fittings, bedroom suites, office furniture, dining suites, shop fittings and occasional furniture.
 
Personal requirements:
·        Enjoy practical and manual activities
·        Able to follow written instructions
·        Able to work to a high level of accuracy
·        Able to make mathematical calculations
·        Good communication skills
·        Good hand-eye co-ordination
·        Free from allergies to dust
